INDEPENDENT LIVING - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ'S)
INDEPENDENT LIVING FAQ'S
Retirement is a time when many older adults decide to move into an independent living community. That type of arrangement gives older adults the ability to control their lifestyle. They are looking for more opportunities to socialize, travel and enjoy their leisure time and free themselves from the burdens of home ownership. Independent living communities create opportunities for older adults to make new friends, remain active, engage in fun activities, and perhaps learn a new skill or pick up an interesting hobby. Here are some of the questions frequently asked when making this decision:
Q: WHAT IS AN INDEPENDENT LIVING COMMUNITY?
A: The Prime Place at Wildwood Town Center is an independent Living Community. An independent living community is specifically designed for older adults. The focus is on living a care-free and fun life. The Prime Place is a lifestyle offering the comforts of home with the freedom to live each day however you want to. Residents can choose to participate in as many or as few organized experiences as they wish. The Prime Place offers services that make life easier, such as housekeeping, maintenance-free living, and amenities such as activities and wellness programs, entertainment, scheduled transportation and a concierge to meet resident needs. Most also offer dining or meal programs. The Prime Place provides a monthly allowance at our on-site restaurant.
Q: WHO IS A GOOD FIT FOR A MOVE INTO THE PRIME PLACE?
A: People who are independent! Independent living residents are older, active adults who are looking for opportunities to participate in social activities and meet new people or embrace quiet solitude. They are looking to simplify and enrich their lives and spend more time doing the things they enjoy. The walk-ability of the urban setting of The Town Center provides the closeness of parks and trails, flourishing restaurants and retail, live music in the town center and the summer farmer's market are included in a wide variety of community events. There is even a movie theater right next door where The Prime Place residents will enjoy one free movie per week.
Savor quiet relaxation one day and explore all that Wildwood has to offer the next.
Q: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INDEPENDENT LIVING (SUCH AS THE PRIME PLACE) AND ASSISTED LIVING?
A: Residents of The Prime Place can care for themselves while living independently in their apartment and the community. Older adults who need an environment with supervision of the activities of daily living, such as bathing, grooming, and medication management, would be more compatible for an assisted living community.
Q: ARE MEALS PROVIDED AT THE PRIME PLACE?
A: At The Prime Place, you will have a beautifully appointed full kitchen with quartz counters and a lot of cooking and prep space. However, no one wants to cook every day, so we offer a meal allowance that can be used at our restaurant, in the building, for those days and times. There are also restaurants within walking distance for a variety. We do not have a mandatory program in a large dining room with assigned seating and eating times. We respect your independence.
Q: CAN RESIDENTS BRING THEIR OWN FURNITURE TO THE PRIME PLACE?
A: Of course! Residents do bring their own cherished furniture and possessions to furnish and decorate their apartment home to reflect their taste.
Q: MAY I BRING MY OWN VEHICLE TO THE PRIME PLACE AND DO YOU PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION IF I DON'T WANT TO DRIVE?
A: Prime Place residents can bring their own vehicles. There are secured covered and uncovered parking spaces. on the secure resident lot. The Prime Place offers scheduled transportation services for events and outings.
Q: ARE PETS ALLOWED AT THE PRIME PLACE?
A: The Prime Place does not allow pets, due to noise, local ordinances, or allergy concerns.
Q: CAN I HAVE FAMILY OR FRIENDS SPEND THE WEEKEND WITH ME AT THE PRIME PLACE?
A: Of course! It's your home. Perhaps they'll join you doing fun things in the neighborhood.
Q: WHAT IF I NEED ADDITIONAL CARE WHILE LIVING AT THE PRIME PLACE?
A: The Prime Place collaborates with outside health resources to allow the resident to continue to live in their apartment home as long as possible. Should the need arise for continuing care beyond independent living, The Prime Place will ensure a smooth transition to a continuing care provider.
Q: HOW MUCH WILL I HAVE TO SPEND TO LIVE AT THE PRIME PLACE?
A: The Prime Place uses an entry fee deposit program which allows management to lower the monthly service fee to an amount that is more than 40% less than the monthly service fee required for an independent living community without an entry fee deposit. It's important to consider that the entry fee deposit is refunded at 90% when you move away. The Entry Fee represents an investment in The Prime Place for the benefit of the Resident. The Developers use the Entry Fees to reduce the amount of the monthly mortgage payment and that savings is passed on to the Resident by way of a greatly reduced monthly "Service Fee".
Most communities, other than The Prime Place, have rental programs and monthly living costs that vary. Prices for independent living communities are based on the size and style of the apartment, as well as the services and amenities that are provided. These communities are large campuses with staff members and on-site amenities that are costly to provide. The monthly living costs may vary from a few thousand dollars to over ten thousand dollars per month and you get none of it in return. We feel that the Entry Fee program is similar to home ownership in that the Entry Fee is refunded when you move out, as if you sold your apartment and collected your equity. But unlike home ownership you will not owe a Capital Gains Tax.
The Prime Place will take all the time you need to go over our Entry Fee Program and how it saves you money. Why not have your cake and eat it too?
